My friend Ginger recorded three songs for a tour-travel of Europe she is currently on.  I helped with some vocals and piano on the first track, “On the Ice,” a ‘fictional’ song in which our protagonist considers loneliness and meaning while living and working in Antarctica.  Heart, heart, heart.

Jennings family gifted K an appropriately sized bone. (at Little Cleveland)

NEW FROM MONSTER HOUSE PRESS!

THE HUGMONSTER LIVES UNDER MY BED! (MHP-005)

Who knows what creaks and crackles beneath the bed when night comes. Maybe it’s just a mouse, munching on some chip crumbs. Maybe the heater went on and it’s rustling an old candy wrapper. When a young boy is tucked in for bed, he never expects a big orange monster to be growling under there. It’s no ordinary monster though, it’s the Hugmonster! With claws on his paws, shark-sharp-teeth and a gnarly green tongue, who would talk to a Hugmonster? Could friendship be found between a monster and a boy? Do monsters really hug? Enjoy this rhyming tale that’s sure to excite young readers and teach an important lesson in diversity. This handmade book is fun for all ages. Brought to you with love and the independent spirit of Monster House Press, Winter 2013.

HEY OH! BOXCAR BOOKS AND COMMUNITY CENTER IS TURNING 11!! (MY FAVORITE NUMBER!)

I will be reading poetry at our birthday bash along w/ loads of other fine poets and peeps. There’s gonna be a dessert potluck, raffle prizes, snacks, drinks, you know, birthday party stuff. Come hang?

(When my best friend, who was born five days after me, and I turned 11 years old, I remember, we decided to make it the best year of our lives that far, b/c of our mystical obsession with the number 11. We were certain it was going to be filled with adventure and growth, many endless nights of sleepovers and junk foods, and a world series championship for the cleveland indians. For the most part, our mere positivity made the year one of the most wondrous of my adolescence. When we would go into the woods behind his parents’ house, our names changed to Ott & Oot. We rarely spoke in the woods, became something else entirely; wraiths of oaks, ambassadors to frogs and toads, ears for crows, fingers for bark. Our little feet shifting leaves around or leaving prints in the snow. 11.)

NAUGHTY OR NICE, A BENEFIT FOR BOXCAR BOOKS AND PAGES TO PRISONERS, IS TONIGHT. I’M PLAYING SONGS. WE DECORATED UP A HOLIDAY MAELSTROM.

Playing a ‘few and far between’ solo set at this year’s annual winter fundraiser NAUGHTY OR NICE to benefit Boxcar Books and the Midwest Pages to Prisoner’s Project at the Bishop on Friday, December 14th.

The proceeds from this event will help sustain important projects like Pages to Prisoners and community spaces like Boxcar Books.

Ghost Mice will be playing, Jada B will emcee, the Bloomington Burlesque Brigade will be performing, DJ Kitteh will be spinning the ones and twos, some manifestation of Santa will be there, and of course, all the winter joy you could ask for.

Come hang!
