NEW FROM MONSTER HOUSE PRESS!

THE HUGMONSTER LIVES UNDER MY BED! (MHP-005)

Who knows what creaks and crackles beneath the bed when night comes. Maybe it’s just a mouse, munching on some chip crumbs. Maybe the heater went on and it’s rustling an old candy wrapper. When a young boy is tucked in for bed, he never expects a big orange monster to be growling under there. It’s no ordinary monster though, it’s the Hugmonster! With claws on his paws, shark-sharp-teeth and a gnarly green tongue, who would talk to a Hugmonster? Could friendship be found between a monster and a boy? Do monsters really hug? Enjoy this rhyming tale that’s sure to excite young readers and teach an important lesson in diversity. This handmade book is fun for all ages. Brought to you with love and the independent spirit of Monster House Press, Winter 2013.

YOOOO. I curated this zine. Can you even curate a zine??

I wrote an essay about “Pamphleteer” by the Weakerthans for it.

Lots of wonderful humans who I am lucky to call my friends were involved in it.

Get it!

Ryan JE asks me what’s going on in the world of zines and poetry. Someone has on a wild hat. And a cool jacket. Donations? Who’s Nate?

nail-biter:

I’m working on a free zine library box in my lovely town of Bloomington, Indiana. Zines are often relegated to radical spaces/bookstores (which can be alienating) so I want to open up a little space where folks are free to grab on to one of our little books.
I really want all types of zines for this project. Just one or two to start. Poetry, consent zines, perzines, drawings of your dog friend, how to make dank teas, whatever. We make the coolest zines but I want to see them in the hands of more people. Get at me at nailbiterzines@gmail.com or message me on here for my address. Photos of the zine library box coming soon.

tour kick off reading!
lovely flyer by lovely Richard W.

Reading in Bloomington at the cemetery in my neighborhood, the Near West Side. I’ll be reading poems and aphorisms (ie. subjective-truth spittin’ particularized by its abstract nature, grounded in happening and being in a moment, of a specific, indelible place, yet not situated (completely) in a single, solid place.)
Come hang out?

On Monday, March 26th, Penina Gal and myself spoke to a feminist studies class of middle and high school students from Harmony School in Bloomington, Indiana about ZINES at Boxcar Books. Subjects we touched on included: the general history of zines, the poetic history of zines, the punk history of zines, the comix history of zines, the feminist history of zines, the subversive nature of zines, the urgency of self-publishing, famous zines, anti-famous zines, infamous zines, sexy zines, zine libraries, fests, archives, punk, house shows, diy punk, feminism, Monster House, poetry tours, and community.

Above is the outline I would glance at occasionally to gain my bearings when my thoughts had flown off course.

No, I don’t believe it does.
